DO YOU LOSE STRENGTH IN THE HANDS? FIBROMYALGIA DISEASES YES….
Do you lose strength in your hands? Fibromyalgia sufferers yes
A common feature presenting most of fibromyalgia is a diffuse pain that affects a large part of the body.
This so disconcerting symptom is often accompanied by morning stiffness of joints, numbness in hands and feet, ie tingling and numbness, sleep disturbances and above all a sense of c ansancio and fatigue that accompanies them throughout the day. This fatigue contributes to the fibromyalgics have poor exercise tolerance affecting up to 90% of patients.
That is why a study by a team from the University of Granada, and published in January 2011 in the journal Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, analyzed the resistance of these patients in hand, to use it as a complementary tool in assessing the severity of fibromyalgia in women.
The objective was to determine the ability of the endurance test of strength in the hand, when discriminating between the presence and absence of fibromyalgia and the severity of it in 81 women with the disease and 44 healthy women. They measured the strength endurance in hand with a test of maximal isometric force, with the help of a hand dynamometer. Women were classified according to their score in: Fibromialgia moderate (<70) and severe Fibromyalgia (70 or more). The results observed were:
The threshold resistance force in the hand that best discriminates between the presence and absence of fibromyalgia was 23.1 kg.
The threshold that best discriminates between severe and moderate fibromyalgia was 16.9 kg.
A tensile strength in the hand of 23,1 kg or less was associated with having a probability of 33.8 times after defining fibromyalgia suffer age.
In the group of fibromyalgia, a tensile strength in the hand of 16.9 kg or less was associated with a probability 5.3 times higher for severe fibromyalgia.
The conclusions presented by these researchers are that the strength of the hand strength is reduced in women with fibromyalgia, as well as those with severe fibromyalgia about their peers with moderate fibromyalgia.
It also suggests that women who do not meet these proposed standards can guide the physician to make a proper diagnosis, as it would be used as a useful and informative tool.
